Coffee is 98 percent water. Often overlooked, the quality of the water is as important as the quality of the coffee. A good rule of thumb is that if your water doesn’t taste good from the tap, it won’t taste any better in your coffee. That’s why Cuisinart suggests adding a water filter to the coffeemaker. The Cuisinart DCC-RWF charcoal water filter removes chlorine, calcium, bad tastes and odors, for the purest cup of coffee every time.

With the touch of a button, this fully automatic single-serve coffee brewer makes coffee, tea, and hot chocolate, as well as cappuccinos and lattes with real milk. The machine uses Tassimo discs (T-Discs), which contain precisely measured amounts of the ingredients for each drink and are sealed to protect the flavors inside. With barcode technology, the brewer scans the barcode printed on the label of each T-Disc to identify the drink desired. The system then expertly adjusts to the optimal brewing time, temperature, and amount of water needed. Simply insert a T-Disc, press the button, and in about a minute, sit back and enjoy a coffeehouse-quality hot beverage, one cup at a time. Try over 40 beverage varieties from 12 distinct brands, including Starbucks. All the brewing happens inside the T-Disc using a unique inverse flow, so beverages pour directly from the T-Disc into the cup, allowing for different drinks to be prepared one after the other with no flav (more…)

Great for commuters, office professionals, and one-coffee-drinker households, this personal coffeemaker brews 15 ounces of coffee directly into a stainless-steel travel mug. The mug has a rubber handle for a safe grip and a lid to keep coffee hot. It’s tapered to a 2-1/2-inch-diameter bottom, so it fits most vehicle cup holders. The coffeemaker itself is designed for an on-the-go coffee drinker. It has a permanent filter–no messy disposable paper filters required–and shuts off automatically after brewing. The mug, filter, filter basket, and mug lid are dishwasher-safe, and the coffeemaker can also be used to heat water for tea, hot chocolate, and instant foods like oatmeal and soup. Made of gleaming black plastic, it measures 9-3/4 inches high, 7 inches wide, and 6 inches deep, and carries a one-year warranty against defects. –Fred Brack

The best coffee is always the freshest coffee. That’s why it makes no sense to brew by the pot: by the time you get around to drinking most of the joe, it’s been sitting in a carafe (or worse, on top of a burner), going more bitter and stale with each minute. The Breville single-cup brewer takes a different approach. It makes coffee one cup at a time, so each cup tastes as fresh as the first one in the pot. The unit’s LCD control panel includes a digital clock with auto on/off time, five brew strengths, and variable brew temperature, which allows for customizing each cup–perfect for households or dinner parties in which everyone likes a different brew. Best of all, the brewing process is very, very difficult to mess up. The Breville’s patented “showerhead” sprays a precisely calibrated amount of water through a “K-Cup,” a technology made famous by Keurig’s single-cup brewers, using temperature and pressure designed to extract the maximum amount of flavor fr (more…)

Lots of folks dislike the burnt flavor that coffee gets when it sits in a glass pot over a heating element. To avoid this, coffee shops often brew right into large thermal pots to keep the coffee warm without it becoming overcooked. The Zojirushi Fresh Brew does that, too, but in home-sized batches. It looks great, too, with a glossy black body and stainless steel carafe and brew basket. To brew, lift the lid and swing the water outlet spout to one side while the filter is being loaded; the spout will return to its proper position when the lid is closed. A small red ball in the water gauge makes it extra simple to read. And an electronic clock module also serves as a timer that will start the brewer at a specified time. The carafe’s lid is designed to be on during brewing, with a small cap to help keep the heat in after it’s ready. The Fresh Brew also has a pause-and-serve function that stops the flow for 30 seconds while a cup of coffee is served. To (more…)

Wake up to freshly brewed coffee with this programmable 10-cup coffeemaker. Not only does it provide a 24-hour timer for pre-set automatic brewing, but it also offers programmable automatic shutoff for setting the unit to turn off anywhere from 20 minutes to four hours after brewing. The coffeemaker’s fast-brewing technology delivers hot, fully extracted, and aromatic coffee. Removing the carafe pauses the brew cycle, which allows for pouring a cup midbrew. The coffeemaker’s 54-ounce glass carafe provides a handy water-level indicator and a distinctive non-slip open-handle design for simple pouring. The units exclusive, filter basket-release button makes it simple to remove the basket and conveniently place it on the countertop for easy filling or cleaning. Other highlights include an LED digital clock and timer, a pilot light and preset brewing indicator, an integrated cord-storage compartment, and dishwasher-safe parts for quick cleanup.
